On this episode host Brad Fowler gives his draft grades for the NFC South and tells you each teams best pick and worst pick. Brad also has a great in depth interview with Mark Dulgerian of NFL Media. Plus the NFC South had 2 teams that he thinks crushed the draft and 2 teams that had terrible drafts, and received Brad's worst grades yet!
Today's Guest Mark Dulgerian Mark does research and analytics for NFL Media (which includes NFL Network and NFL.com) and works for Optimum Scouting. He was formerly with the XFL as the Director of Pro Scouting and also worked in the football operations at USC. Here are the questions we asked Mark: 1) You have a background in scouting and like I said in your intro you currently do research and analytics, I'm curious, when you're evaluating these prospects, what are some of the key things you look for from a analytics point of view? 2) We saw Travon Walker and Jordan Davis both go early in the 1st round, players that lacked the typical production you might expect from early picks but have the measurements and traits of high level players, what is your process when evaluating a player and weighing the measurements and traits vs the production and game tape? 3) I saw you did a pick by pick analysis for the mid and late round guys for NFL.com, who are some players from that group that really stand out and you think offer great value for where they were taken? 4) You covered the Shrine Bowl for NFL Media and are involved with the game with Optimum Scouting and got a real close look at the players that attended, who from that game really stood out to you? 5) What team you get drafted too can often play a big role in the success or failure of a rookie in the NFL, so who are some guys that you feel landed in right spot? 6) The New York teams are getting a lot of high draft grades from the media but which team had a great draft that isn't getting talked about enough? 7) This QB class was viewed as down and the NFL teams made that abundantly clear by where they were drafted, who is most likely to become a franchise quarterback from this class or is there one? 8) 5 years from now, what will we remember most from this draft? On this episode Host Brad Fowler has a great in-depth interview with NFL Draft analyst Oliver Hodgkinson (@ojhodgkinson) of ProFootballNetwork.com to do a deep dive into this NFL draft class. We take a look at a lot of different players including mid/late round prospects, quarterbacks, edge defenders, running backs, small school guys and more, but I think you'll be surprised who Oliver has as his top ranked cornerback and running back in this class, and who he thinks could be overrated in the first round as well.
Today's Guest Oliver Hodgkinson Oliver is an NFL Draft Analyst for ProFootballNetwork.com, a co host of the "College Chaps Podcast" and a contributor for TheTouchdown.co.uk Here are the questions we asked Oliver: • Which prospect in this draft are you higher on than most other draft analysts? • Who are some mid to later round prospects that you really like that you think could make a big impact for their team? • Alot has been made of this year's QB group and it being viewed as a down year for the position, with that being said we know how important the position is, so will any team draft a QB in the top 10? • Which projected 1st round prospect(s) are most likely to slide in this draft and get picked later than most expected? • Which projected top 10 player is being overhyped? • If you were a NFL GM, who is a guy you would be pounding the table for in this Draft? • The running backs in this draft aren't viewed as 1st round talent although there's a few solid prospects such as Breece Hall and Kenneth Walker, could you see either one going in the first round? Possibly to a team like the Bills that have a need at the position? • Unlike last year there isn't a consensus, no brainer number 1 pick. Most analysts think it will be Aidan Hutchinson going number one but there's a wide range of opinions on the top players in this class, so I'll ask you, who's the best player in this draft? On this episode host Brad Fowler releases his NFL Draft Big Board ranking of his top 25 players in the 2022 NFL Draft, and he tells you about one prospect that he has ranked inside of his top 10, that no other analyst has ranked as high.
Today's Guest Natalie Miller Natalie is a writer and NFL Draft Analyst for USA Today's Draft Wire. Read her work at draftwire.usatoday.com and Follow her on Twitter @Nat_NFLDraft Here are the questions we asked Natalie: • Many view Aiden Hutchinson as the most likely 1st overall pick, but some think Kayvon Thibodaux is actually a better player at that position, some analysts have OT Evan Neal as the best player, my point is, there's a wide range of opinions at the top of this class, so I'll ask you, who's the best player in this class? • Which position group do you think is the deepest, and who are some players you like from that group? • Most fans have become pretty familiar with the players projected to go in the 1st round but who are some mid to later round prospects that you are high on? • This QB class is viewed as being down this year, what are your thoughts on this group of QBs? and who do you think is most likely to become a high level franchise QB? • Every year we see some guys who go later than most expected, which projected 1st round pick is most likely to slide in this draft? • We see it every year come April, a guy or 2 that goes early in the draft and never lives up to the projections, which player/players could you see being a bust? Today's Guest Laurie Fitzpatrick Laurie covers the NFL for USA Today's Touchdown Wire and is the co-host of the "Bleav in The Jacksonville Jaguars" podcast. Here are the questions we asked Laurie: I want to start by getting your thoughts on the NFL Draft as a whole being in Las Vegas, the crowd, the weather the scenery, I thought made for a great venue for the Draft, what did you think? 1) When you're in the first round, most teams want to eliminate as many question marks as possible. And for Jacksonville with the first overall pick to go with potential over production, was a bit shocking to me. What are your thoughts on Travon Walker going No. 1? 2) 9 trades and 6 WRs taken in the first 20 picks, what did you make of all the trades we saw and the high number of WRs that went early in this draft? 3) The NFL seems to be split on the philosophy of weather to pay big for proven veteran WRs or draft young WRs, the position has never been viewed as important as it is today, some teams are paying big money to acquire veterans like Davante Adams and Tyreek Hill but what are your thoughts on what we saw during the draft with the AJ Brown and Hollywood Brown trades when this was viewed as such a deep WR class ? 3) I want to shift the QBs, Kenny Pickett went at 20 to the Steelers and was the 1st and only QB taken in round one, Malik Willis was viewed by many as the best prospect but fell Into the 3rd round, along with the rest of the top rated QB prospects. The NFL made a clear statement on how they felt about this QB class, but What did you make of the QBs and where they went? 4) Who were some players that slid in this draft that really surprised you? 5) Who were some players that you feel landed in the perfect situation or perfect team for them? 6) what 1st round pick left you shaking your head? 7) We had several teams this year with multiple 1st round picks, of that group who did the best? 8) What was the single best pick of the entire draft? 9) After the draft, we all love to grade how we think the teams did, and this podcast is no exception, I don't necessarily need grades from you but how about winners and losers so to speak, who do you think crushed it and who came up light this year? On this episode host Brad Fowler gives his offensive player rankings for the top 3 at each offensive position group, and breaks down each player's strengths and what they could bring to the table in the NFL.
He also has a player in this draft that almost EVERY draft analyst has ranked #1 at his position, and Brad has him ranked 3rd (the name might surprise you) and he explains why he isn't as high on him as most other analysts. Today's Guest Porter Larsen He works for ESPN Radio 700 and is the host of "After The Whistle with Porter Larsen" podcast. He covers the Utah Utes, Pac-12 and the NFL Draft. Here are the questions we asked Porter: • Let's start with Utah LB Devin Lloyd, many analysts, my self included think he's the best LB in this draft, for those who maybe aren't familiar with him tell us about his game and what he brings to the table? • One Pac 12 prospect has gone from viewed as a Top 2 pick to sliding down most mock draft boards and that's Oregon DE Kayvon Thibodeaux, I think from a talent and ceiling standpoint he's one of the Top prospects in this class. Where would you draft him? and what type of NFL player do you think he'll become? • Washington has a pair of CBs that are viewed as 2 of the best in this entire class with Trent McDuffie and Kyler Gordon. Tell us about their games and how they could translate to the NFL? • The TE group isn't as top heavy as some other years, but it's a pretty deep position. Trey McBride is the top TE for most people but after him a strong case can be made for Greg Dulcich of UCLA as the 2nd best TE. What are your thoughts on him coming into the league and where would be a good fit for his skill set? • One player I think isn't getting enough attention is Arizona State RB Rachaad White. I think he could be a top 5 RB in this class. What are your thoughts on his game? • The WR group is really deep this year and Drake London of USC is at, or near the top of that WR list for most people. He's had some trouble staying on the field but when he plays, he's a big body WR and a difference maker. Where does he rank for you in this loaded WR group? On this episode host Brad Fowler gives his defensive player rankings for the top 3 at each defensive position group, and breaks down each player's strengths and what they could bring to the table in the NFL.
He also tells you who HE thinks the best player in this entire NFL Draft is, and why he is so high on him. Today's Guest Shane P. Hallam He is a managing partner and NFL Draft analyst for DraftCountdown.com and a Fantasy Football and College Football analyst. Shane is the co-host of "Devy Marketplace" podcast, a writer for DynastyLeagueFootball.com and a Steel City Insider covering the Pittsburgh Steelers for 247 Sports. Here are the questions we asked Shane: • The Steelers at pick 20, do you think Malik Willis or Kenny Pickett will be available to them? and if not could you see them getting aggressive and trading up in order to acquire a QB in this draft? • Could you see the Lions reaching at number 2 overall for one of these QBs? • This class is deep at WR, who are some guys you think could have big rookie seasons and become must own players in Fantasy Football their 1st season? • Who are some guys you really like that are projected to go in the 1st or 2nd round? • Who are some prospects that you really like that are projected to go in the middle to later rounds? • Give me a player or two that you think is being overhyped leading up to the draft? • Who's the best player in this draft? Shane had great insight and intelligent answers to all these questions and we really enjoyed having him on the show.
